The first matches of the second round in doubles category of the WTA Baltic Open 2019 were held on the courts of the national tennis center Lielupe in Jurmala.
On the 7th court the first pair of quarter-finalists was determined - Ulrikke Eikeri from Norway and the French Elixane Lechemia outplayed the Russian Natela Dzalamidze and Paula Kania from Poland – 7/5, 6/2. The victorious duo committed 3 double faults and fired 0 aces, while their opponents aced once and made 3 double faults.
Later the last match of the first round in doubles was played. The Indonesians Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies lost to Katarzyna Kawa from Poland and Ankita Raina from India – 7/6 (3), 3/6, 10-12.
In over 1 hour 50 minutes the Indonesian team committed 7 double faults and lost 6 breakpoints, while their opponents did only 4 double faults and saved 6 breakpoints. In the next round Kawa and Raina will compete for the spot in the semi-finals with Irina Bara and Dalila Jakupovic.
In the last match of the day Sharon Fichman with Nina Stojanovich outplayed Oksana Kalashnikova and Ena Shibahara – 2/6, 6/2 (10-3). For the spot in the final the winners of the match will play with duo Eikeri-Lechemia.
