The first round in doubles draw is over. Here are results of the day on clay courts of WTA Baltic Open 2019.
Ulrikke Eikeri from Norway with the French Elixane Lechemia stepped out against Monique Adamczak from Australia and the Chinese Xinyun Han – 7/6 (5), 6/2. Both pairs committed 4 double faults, but the European duo saved 8 out of 12 break points, while their opponents saved only 7 out of 13.
Another match of the day happened between pairs Natela Dzalamidze from Russia/Paula Kania from Poland against the Russians Veronika Pepelayeva and Anastasia Tikhonova. Kania and Dzalamidze defeated their opponents – 6/1, 6/1, committed 3 double faults and aced once, while Pepelayeva and Tikhonova made 4 double faults and also fired an ace once. In the 2nd round the winners will face Ulrikke Eikeri from Norway and the French Elixane Lechemia.
Later on the day top-seeded duo Galina Voskoboyeva from Kazakhstan along with the Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko played against the German Vivian Heisen and Diana Marcinkevica. At the beginning of the match it was obvious that Ostapenko and Voskoboyeva were trying to find their game – all 3 double faults were committed in the first set. But then, Heisen and Marcinkevica couldn't stand against their opponents in the second set, what led to a decisive tie-break. The final score is 5/7, 6/0 (10-8) in Ostapenko and Voskoboyeva favor. In the 2nd round they will compete with the Russians Anastasia Potapova and Yana Sizikova.
