As part of the international tournaments calendar changes approved by the WTA Board of Directors, the WTA Baltic Open (ex. Moscow River Cup) will be held in Jurmala, Latvia. The WTA International level tournament will be staged July 22-28, 2019 at the National Tennis Centre Lielupe on the Baltic Seaside. Players will be competing for $250,000 in prize money and 280 ranking points.

The National Tennis Centre Lielupe is currently under reconstruction, and will finally change its image in the nearest future. The central stadium itself and clay courts of the tennis centre already operate and welcome guests.

Alexander Ostrovsky, tournament director, said: «As WTA professional tournament license holders, we decided to relocate Moscow River Cup from Moscow (Russia) to Jurmala (Latvia). The tournament will be organised by sports marketing agency ONE SGM and will take place from 22nd till 28th of July 2019 at the National Tennis Centre Lielupe on the Baltic seaside. Strong interest from the Latvian Tennis Union and local businesses to host a WTA tournament in Baltic region determines our decision. This summer all tennis lovers will have a unique opportunity to witness WTA stars in the game at Baltic Open tournament in a magnificent resort city of Jurmala».

There are currently two Latvian stars among the WTA Top 25 – 2017 Roland Garros champion and former World No.5 ranked Jelena Ostapenko (No.22) and 2018 US Open semifinalist Anasatasia Sevastova (No.11).
