SEVASTOVA BREAKS INTO THE QUARTERFINALS



On the centre court in the match of the day the Latvian Anastasija Sevastova broke the resistance of Dalila Jakupovic from Slovakia - 6/7 (3), 6/2, 6/4.


In the first set, Sevastova was down to her rival - 1/4, then she broke twice in a row - 5/4. However, the fate of the set was decided on a tie break. On the set point of Dalila Jakupovic, the Latvian saved the ball, flying to out, and sent it directly into the net, which allowed the Serb to prevail in the first set.


In the second set, Sevastova confidently sailed through - 6/2. The real battle began in the third set - both athletes broke back. The decisive moment in the game came on the serve of Jakupovic - 4/3 (30:30): an athlete from Slovakia hit the opposite corner, the Latvian didn't want to return the ball to the very last moment, but when Sevastova decided to hit the ball, the line referee announced "out" - a controversial moment. The umpire descended from the chair and announced the reappointment serve. Jakupovic did not agree with the decision of the judge, as Sevastova still hit the ball after all. Next serve, the pivotal moment came when Sevastova benefitted from a fortuitous net cord - this ball turned out to be a virtual match point.


«Actually, I feel great that it's over. Thanks to all of you, who supported me. I was fighting till the end. Somehow she played so good against me, Dalila is really a great player. It was a tough. But I was fighting myself, for you guys, for everybody here. I hope I won't play tomorrow" – commented on her win the Latvian.



At the end of the match, Sevastova again won the game on the opponent's serve and put the winning point accompanied by the applause of the local public - 6/7 (3), 6/2, 6/4.
